Alice was born March 4, 1951, in Galveston, Texas to Presley W. Longnecker, Jr. and Agnes Longnecker. Alice passed from this life on March 16, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael Megna, her parents and her brother, P.W. Longnecker III. She is survived by her sister-in-law Frances L. Megna White and her husband Mike, niece Amy White, her brother-in-law Joseph R. Megna, nephews Patick R. Megna and wife Divya, James B. Megna and wife Brittney and their daughter Emma, Alice’s great niece. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Sharon Longnecker and nephew Robert Longnecker, her lifelong pal and confidant Brenda Squires and many other close friends.
Alice grew up and attended school in Alvin, Texas. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from The University of Houston.
Alice conducted research at UTMB in Galveston in the 1970s and later moved to Hermann Hospital in Houston. She also worked for Cameron Iron Works before opening an environmental consulting firm, EnviroSource Training and Technology.
Alice and Mike met while at UTMB and were married on January 27, 1979, and in 2024 they celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. In 2009, they built a house in Round Mountain, Texas where they retired in 2010. Alice quickly met all the neighbors and she and Mike became a big part of the Round Mountain community and the Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
Alice and Mike were avid scuba divers, often traveling to their favorite dive spots in the Caribbean and Central America. She loved to quilt and in addition to showing off her artistry, many of her quilts tell a story of events in her life. She loved quilting weeks with her close friends and the many quilt shows she attended and at which she displayed her quilts.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 11 am at the Round Mountain VFD station located in the Michael J. Megna Public Safety Complex, 8480 N. Hwy 281, Round Mountain, TX. Attendees are encouraged to wear an ostentatious Hawaiian shirt or Alice’s favorite color (purple!). Lunch will be served.
Alice loved life! She loved her pets, family and friends. She also loved the Round Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and the members who gave their time and talents to respond to the needs of others. Please consider a donation to RMVFD.org, The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
