Maxine Elizabeth (Shackelford) Campbell went to her eternal home on Friday, October 11th, 2019. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Oscar Hobert Campbell, her parents William Holt and Elizabeth Jane (Napier) Shackelford and brother Edwin Shackelford. She is survived by one daughter, Venita Long (Frank) and one son, Marc Campbell (Tammy) and one grandson, Brandon Michael Campbell, one sister, Lois Wyatt and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Maxine, after a career of 34 years, retired from Northmont City Schools in Englewood, OH. She also taught classes at Wright State University and did many workshops throughout the Midwest. She earned a B.S. and Master’s degree from Wright State University and her Ph.D. from Columbia Pacific University. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1991.
She belonged to the National Honor Society, National Platform of Speakers Association, and the International Poetry Society. She was the founder of Young Authors groups in Northmont, Prom queen in high school, May Queen in college and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa.
Maxine enjoyed writing poetry, reading, crocheting, decorating and various crafts as well as cooking and baking, but her family was always her top priority. She was a member of the Methodist Church for over 60 years and served on or chaired several committees.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Centerville, OH this fall. Details will follow for family and friends.
