Karen Morgan Howard, age 71, passed into the embrace of the Lord on February 4th, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 13, 1952 in Chattanooga, TN, Karen was the beloved daughter of William and Betty Jo Morgan. She obtained her degree in Interior Design from the University of Tennessee and dedicated her life to enriching the lives of those around her.
In 1975, Karen moved to Atlanta, Georgia, a city she fell in love with and where she spent the rest of her life. She married her husband, Nick Howard, in 1986. Theirs was a passionate love and their devotion to one another was profound. Karen loved her stepchildren Greg, Britt, and Robin deeply. Years later, Karen and Nick were blessed with their youngest daughter, Morgan Lavinia.
Karen possessed a rare gift of making everyone she encountered feel valued and cherished. Whether they were family members, clients, or new friends, easy or challenging to engage with, Karen made room for them in her heart. This ability to make others feel important not only made her a wonderful friend and family member, but contributed to an impressive career in which she was the top salesperson at CWC for 25 years. She also worked her way up the ranks of the International Facility Management Association, becoming its president in 2011.
A woman of admirable sass and unwavering determination, Karen’s strength inspired all who knew her. Though not effusive in nature, Karen’s generosity overflowed. If she knew that you would love something, she had to share it with you. Her love for animals knew no bounds; she never turned down a rescue, no matter how challenging.
An avid gardener, Karen found solace and joy among her carefully curated blooms. She was, all her life, a lover of beauty. Her passion for the arts, particularly Atlanta theatre and opera, was evident in her unwavering support and patronage.
Karen was pre-deceased by her husband, Nick, and is survived by daughter Morgan Howard, grandson Jack Walraven, stepsons Britt and Greg Howard, stepdaughter Robin Bell, and sister Sandra Morgan, as well as many loving friends.
Karen Morgan Howard leaves behind a legacy of love, beauty, and strength. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. May her spirit continue to inspire kindness and resilience in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A memorial service for Karen will be held on Saturday, February 17th at 10 AM at the Mikell Chapel in St. Phillip’s Cathedral, with a brief visitation to follow in the church’s Court of Gratitude.
