John Martin Pientka, age 70, passed away Saturday morning August 13th, 2022 in his home in Atlanta, Georgia. Born in Buffalo, NY to the late Joseph and the late Dorothy (nee Strzegowski) Pientka, he graduated in 1974 with a Bachelors of Science from the University of Buffalo, and an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1981. John grudgingly held a CPA, but found his real passion in marketing and sales for information technology and satellite networks. His enthusiasm for the industry led him to leadership positions with British Telecom, Motorola, and CGI over his career. He was also an avid consumer of scientific journalism. Much to his family’s occasional chagrin, his love of science also extended into affection for all science fiction movies, especially classics and B-grade movies. The more bad puns, the better.
John is survived by his loving wife Linda (nee Homyak), and sister Carol (Gary) Wright, as well as two children: daughter, Kate (Thomas) Kirschmann, and son, Alex (Claire) Pientka with his ex-spouse Barbara Binis, and three granddaughters: Nell, Caroline, and Linnea. He leaves behind a legacy of lifelong learning, empowerment of women in a male-dominated industry, and many great dinner parties and cocktail hours with friends. He had a sensitive heart and will be sadly missed.
