John McWilliam Merritt was born in Mississippi, raised in Alabama and planted roots in Doraville, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Fran, his three children, 8 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, neighbors and colleagues.
John "Johnny Mac" McWilliam Merritt, age 73, of Doraville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Johnny Mac was born in Fulton, Mississippi. John McWilliam Merritt was born January 10, 1949 in Fulton, Mississippi and as a small child moved to Alabama where he spent his childhood. He spent his later years at Indian Springs Preparatory. Indian Springs had a special place in his heart. He moved to Atlanta to join friends in their woodworking shop where they sold custom pieces to hotels and private homes. He was bitten by the computer bug and went back to school for his software engineering degree. His passion was medical software and he wrote coding and created new software for IBM, Honeywell, NDC, Diamond Computing, Tech Rx and ended his career after consulting for the Veterans Administration for 15 years. He never stopped consuming all the new information that he could find. He played piano and loved the Blues. He knew anything and everything about every musician. His greatest joy in life was spending time talking to his family, friends, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild about the Blues and all genre of music. He loved sharing information to any who would listen. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Fran, his children John, Andrew and Shannon as well as his 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
