Douglas Frank Jones, 78, loving husband, father, and grandfather, died on Friday, January 20, 2017, at home surrounded by loved ones. Frank was born in Shanghai, China to the late Douglas and Emilia Jones. He spent several of his early years in a prison camp in China during World War II. After the war he moved with his family to England, Puerto Rico, and Portland, Oregon where he finished high school. After graduating from the University of California Berkeley with a master’s degree in engineering, he joined the United States Air Force, from which he retired with the rank of captain. Later he had a long and successful career in marketing research. After retirement he worked at the Newnan H&R Block during tax season where he made many friends. Cities Frank called home included Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Seattle and lastly, Newnan Georgia for the past 13 years. Frank was full of joy which he communicated with his smile and laughter. He loved taking friends and family out on the boat, playing poker, weekly breakfasts at Christy’s, playing Santa for the neighborhood kids, traveling with his wife, and visiting his much-loved children and grandchildren. He enjoyed many types of music, from Dixieland jazz to opera. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Jan Jones, and children Christopher and Nun Jones of Beijing China; Patricia and Michael Lyons, of Parrish Florida; Francie Jones and Adam Weissburg of Los Angeles California; and Betsy and Sean Bradley of Dubuque Iowa; 8 grandchildren; and a devoted sister, Carol-ann Jones of Annandale Virginia. He was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Jones. A funeral mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church, 771 Roscoe Road, Newnan, GA 30263 on Friday, January 27th at 2:00, followed immediately by a reception in the church hall.
