
Rudy Allen Wooten passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on September 3, 1946, and was a resident of Paso Robles, California.
In 1983, Rudy met Janice, and they were married in December of that year. Together, they created a blended family, bringing together Rudy’s son, Wayne, and Janice’s three children, Elaine, Carrie, and Steve. Rudy embraced each of them as an important part of his life and cherished the many years they shared as a family.
Rudy devoted much of his career to California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo, where he served as a Professor of Food Science and Nutrition and later as Department Head. He was a dedicated educator and mentor whose leadership and commitment left a lasting impact on his students and colleagues.
In 1996, Rudy and Janice moved to their ranch in Creston, California, where he loved working the land and riding horses. The ranch became a special place where Rudy enjoyed the outdoors, welcomed family and friends, and lived the lifestyle he loved.
Rudy loved God, his family, and helping others. He had a tremendous amount of energy and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those around him. Whether through his teaching, mentorship, friendship, or acts of kindness, Rudy gave generously of himself and used every last drop of what he had to serve others.
Rudy is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his children, Wayne, Elaine, Carrie, and Steve; their spouses; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, trusted mentor, loyal friend, and dedicated family man. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
