Born January 12, 1950 to Samuel Wymard and Ruth Louise (Haworth) Tarner. Brent was the youngest of 4 children, born premature (3lb, 8oz) in an era of early developing treatments and care for Premature babies. Brent spent the first month of his young life inside a medical incubator at Huntington Memorial
Hospital in Pasadena, California.
Growing up, Brent and his 2 older brothers cared for the cattle and other livestock on the families 10-acre ranch at the corner of Corydon Road/Grand Ave in Lake Elsinore, California. Brent loved 4-H and showing the animals he raised at the Hemet Fair. As a letterman Varsity Football player Brent also excelled in Choir where he met and later married Stephanie Smith, his high school sweetheart. Brent always referred to her as his “first wife” said he fell in love with her the moment he laid eyes on her! Together they raised 2 loving daughters. Brent joined the California Highway Patrol in 1977 as a Motor Carriers Specialist (retired). With a deep passion for classic cars Brent spent his off time fixing up, trading and showing his fleet of classic cars. In fact, it was his love of
classic cars that led him to raise additional income which they diligently saved and enabled he and Stephanie to purchase land and then ultimately their first home in Temecula Ca, later relocating to Paso Robles in the mid 90’s. Known for his beloved 1955 & 1956 Chevy trucks (flatbed, 3-window, wrap-around window) red, white, & blue. Hoss was always at a weekend car show in “small-town”
California and his beloved Central Coast. Brent served as 1st Vice President (2005) and President (2006) of Golden State Classic Car Club.
Brent is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Stephanie (Smith) Tarner, their two daughters, Tammy Rebecca and Ann Marie (Tarner) Fogleman, their three grandchildren and their seven cherished great-grandchildren as well as a gaggle of beloved nephews and nieces.
