William Joseph Greto, III (Bill) was born in Port Chester, New York, in September 1945. He was the son of Florence and William Greto, Jr. and grew up in Mamaroneck, New York. In 1966, Bill enlisted in the Navy. He served on the USS Severn in the European area on the Mediterranean Sea and received a National Defense Service Medal. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled in college with a VA scholarship to learn about the exciting new field of Information Technology.
In 1977, Bill moved to Colorado, where he fell in love with Rocky Mountain National Park and outdoor sightseeing and became a longtime resident in laid back Longmont, Colorado.
Bill was previously married to Karen Conroy and had two daughters, Lindsey and Janelle. He took pride in watching them grow and teaching them how to be independent and loving. Over the years, he went on many cross country road trips, hiked whenever possible, and took photos of nature at its finest. Bill also had a strong passion for music and liked to share stories of his days at Woodstock and loved both rock and roll and the blues. He had a talent for constructing gadgets, vehicle mechanics, and woodworking.
Bill passed away peacefully at Saint Anthony’s Hospital February 1, 2025 at the age of 79 with both his daughters nearby.
He was preceded in death by his father Wiliam Greto, Jr, both of his sisters Clarice “Reese” Klein (Greto) and Florence “Jinx” Greto, and Nephew Phillip Micalizzi. He is survived by his loving daughters Lindsey Greto and Janelle Greto, mother Florence Greto, nephews Patrick Micalizzi, Johnny Klein, and Billy Micalizzi, and niece Patricia Klein.
In lieu of flowers William requested for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or St Jude Children’s Hospital.
His service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Colorado, followed by a celebration of life at a future date to be determined.
