

Virginia Elisabeth Mulherin, 87, passed away on July 2, 2026 in Loveland, Colorado. She was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 22, 1939 to Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Winthrop. As a young child, her father served in the United States Navy. She, with her mother and sister Mary, lived in several areas on the East coast before relocating to San Diego, California. Virginia attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Chula Vista, California, from 1951 to 1953. Upon her 8th grade graduation, she achieved the American Legion School Award. This was a prestigious honor awarded to recognize outstanding citizenship and character. In the 8th grade, Virginia also met the love of her life, Jerome "Jerry" Mulherin. They continued dating as Virginia attended Cathedral Girls Catholic High School. She excelled in her studies and cherished her time at Cathedral. She served as her senior class president and graduated in 1957.
Virginia and Jerry were married on April 4, 1959 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. They were married for 56 years until Jerry's death in 2015. They were blessed with 3 children. Virginia's greatest joy in life was being a mother. She was very involved with her children and volunteered at Spring Valley Elementary as editor of the monthly newsletter "Spring Board;" fundraising for the Halloween Carnival; Den Mother for Boy Scout Troop 47. She was active in Valley De Oro Little League and member of the Mt. Miguel High School Band Parents. Once her children were older, she worked as a pharmacy assistant for Sexton's Pharmacy in La Mesa, California. She then worked as an administrative clerk for Care Home Health until she retired in 1999.
Virginia and Jerry moved to Loveland, Colorado in 2006 but her heart and home will always be in San Diego. Virginia will always be known for her love of family, compassion, sense of humor, and most important, her faith in God. Virginia is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry; her parents Andrew and Fama Winthrop; her sister, Mary Winthrop; her great-grandchildren, Brave Mulherin, Jamie Hayman, Asaiah Hayman, and Roan Hayman.
Virginia is survived by her children Stephen Mulherin of El Cajon, California, Charles Mulherin of Lakeside, California, and Linda (Steven) Wieseler of Loveland, Colorado; her 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many close friends including Liz Wader of Santee, California and Caroline Hampsey of Loveland, Colorado.
Services will be held Tuesday July 28, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church 1730 W. 12th Street, Loveland, Colorado, with Mass at 10:00am followed by a luncheon at the church. Burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, Colorado, at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Dementia Together at 4025 Automation Way Unit F2, Ft. Collins, Colorado 80525 would be appreciated.
