Shirley was born in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to Ina (Caruthers) and Billy Dunivent. She lived the early years of her life in Arkansas before moving to California. She graduated from Alameda High School.
Shirley married Howard Watson on June 8, 1968 in Reno, Nevada. They had two children Tammy Fiscus (Clint), and Mark Watson. They traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and the South Pacific during Howard’s military career. They later divorced in 1991.
Shirley completed her LPN program in 1977, graduated as an RN in 1980, and completed her BSN in 1993. She was experienced in emergency room, pediatric, geriatric, and psychiatric nursing. She worked in hospitals in North Dakota, Guam and Colorado. Nursing was her passion and she loved her patients from the cradle to the grave.
While working at Centennial Peaks in 1991 she met her significant other Noel Wisdom and the two of them spent many years together. They especially enjoyed traveling. Their trip to Ireland was one of her favorite memories.
Shirley had two granddaughters Sirina Little and Megan Little (Kayleb Weidner) who were the highlights of her life. She had one great-granddaughter, Stella Stoakes, whom she adored. Shirley also loved her little dogs Coco, Kiki, and Nelson whom she spoiled rotten.
Over the years Shirley volunteered in many capacities at her church including teaching kindergarten and first grade Sunday School classes and assisting with hospitality duties and the annual play. She also volunteered at healthcare events including the 9 News Fair. She faithfully took her children to church while they lived at home. She was very involved in her extended family members’ lives and was always the one they turned to when they needed support. Shirley loved the beach and even learned to scuba dive while living on Guam. Shirley was involved in the Red Hats Society where she made several wonderful friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Billy Dunivent and Ina George, her brothers Bobby, Darryl, and Billy Dunivent, and her sister Lois May.
Shirley is survived by her brothers Donald E. George II and Danny Caruthers, her children Tammy Fiscus (Clint) and Mark Watson, her granddaughters Sirina Little and Megan Little (Kayleb Weidner), a great-granddaughter Stella Stoakes, nephew Billy (Pooh) Dunivent, nieces Dawn May, Elisa Dunivent, and Kim May, her significant other Noel Wisdom, and many wonderful friends.
A Celebration of Shirley's Life will be held Monday February 25th at 1:30 PM, at Victory Christian Fellowship. 6101 W. 10th Street, Greely, CO 80634.
Shirley’s ashes will be scattered in the ocean off the coast of San Francisco as she requested. A family ceremony will be held at that time.
