Born in Denver, Colorado, to Mike (“Guy”) and Charlotte Eaton, Sharon was raised in Golden, where she graduated from Golden High School in 1959. During her time at Golden High, she was a proud member of the cheerleading squad and a Homecoming Queen's attendant.
Golden remained Sharon’s home for much of her life and her love for Golden was evident in her decades of active involvement. She worked at the Golden Chamber of Commerce when it was housed at the iconic Astor House and later volunteered for numerous local organizations. One of her most cherished roles was serving on the planning committee for Golden's annual Buffalo Bill Days celebration and parade, an event she eagerly helped organize each July. Sharon was also an enthusiastic participant in the Golden Lions Club’s annual Rummage Sale and the Golden Civic Auction, both of which raised funds for the betterment of her community.
Her ties to the Coors Brewery ran deep, with her father, Guy, working as a painter there for many years, and her husband, Ed, spending 25 years as an employee. Sharon’s strong ties to the company reflected her enduring appreciation for Golden and its heritage.
Those who knew Sharon will always remember her infectious smile, can-do attitude, and iconic laugh that could light up any room. She had a deep affection for animals and the outdoors; her joy was evident as she spoiled every dog that crossed her path and tended to her garden both at their home in Golden and their cabin in Grand Lake, Colorado. The cabin in Grand Lake, which Sharon and her husband moved to full time in 1994, became a true labor of love with year-round maintenance that she took on with her typical dedication, passion and sometimes a much-needed sense of humor.
From 2005-2022 Sharon and her husband split their time between their cabin in Grand Lake and a home in Lake Havasu City, AZ, moving full time to Arizona in 2017. There the two enjoyed the warm weather and the friendship of neighbors until moving back to Colorado in 2023.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Charlotte Eaton, and her sisters, Barbara, Janet and Joyce. She is survived by her devoted husband, Edward R. Peterson; her children, Annette Peterson and Lance Peterson; her grandchildren, Thomas Peterson and Matthew Silva and a great grandson; as well as many other loving family members and friends who will miss her dearly, including her beloved dog, Murphy.
A family celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
Sharon’s legacy of love, service, and joy will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
