Sharon Elizabeth Nigels, born Sharon Elizabeth Lawhorn on January 13, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 80. She was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Nora Lawhorn, who preceded her in death.
Sharon is survived by her devoted daughter, Shannon Ajluni-Cupp, and son-in-law, Casey Cupp, as well as her cherished granddaughters, Elizabeth Cupp and Kyra Cupp. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Barnhard, and brother-in-law, Edwin Barnhard; her niece, Sheri Wheeler; and her nephew, Tom Barnhard, along with other extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Throughout her life, Sharon displayed a remarkable drive and determination, particularly in her career at Hytronics. Beginning on the assembly line and eventually rising to become an assistant to the engineers, her hard work and dedication were a testament to her strength of character and commitment to excellence.
Sharon’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was deeply involved in every church she attended, including Curlew Baptist, First Baptist of Pinellas Park, Seminole First Baptist and Riverside, sharing her gifts in music ministries by singing in choirs, leading children’s choirs, and gracing congregations with her beautiful soprano voice in solos and ensembles. She also devoted herself to working with youth, serving as a mentor, second mother, and “aunt” to many.
Her compassion extended beyond her local community. Sharon was an ESL instructor, helping individuals navigate language barriers to build better lives. She also participated in disaster and hurricane relief efforts through the Southern Baptist Convention, offering comfort and aid to those in need during challenging times.
Sharon’s legacy is one of love, service, and resilience. Her warmth, talent, and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories and an enduring example of a life well-lived.
