Sharon was born May 12, 1937 at the hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Denison, Iowa and was heavily involved in both vocal and instrumental music. Following graduation from high school she went to nurse’s training and graduated from Saint Catherine’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Saint Catherine’s was affiliated with Creighton University. Following her graduation from Saint Catherine’s, she went to work in Denison as a surgical nurse and it was during that period of her life that she married. She then moved with her husband to Ames, Iowa, where he was attending college. Three years later upon his graduation, they and their infant son moved to Cumberland, Maryland. Sharon then began raising a family which would eventually include three boys. After several years, her husband took a job in Lexington, Kentucky and they moved there. She was busy raising three young men all preschool age. After three years, her husband took a job in Arvada, Colorado and they moved there. Sharon remained as a homemaker but she had bigger plans. When the boys were all out of elementary school, she decided to go back to college at Metro State in Denver. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services. By that time the couple and family had moved to Littleton, Colorado to a home that they lived in for the next 49 years. Sharon took a job as the Executive Director of what was then called the Arapahoe Association for Retarded Citizens (later renamed Arapahoe ARC). She continued to work for several years and finally retired shortly before her husband. They enjoyed a comfortable retirement, traveling throughout the United States and doing exactly what they wanted to do. In early 2025 Sharon and her husband moved to independent living in a seniors only development known as Lincoln Meadows in Parker, Colorado.
Sharon passed away on June 29th, 2026 at the age of 89 years at the Parker Advent hospital while under hospice care. She had fallen and broken her hip and though they had repaired the hip, she was never strong enough to do the rehabilitation necessary for her to walk again. She was a marvelous person, a great friend, a tremendous mother and the best wife that a husband could ever wish for. She will be greatly missed.
