Dr. Robin L. Moutray died on Dec. 14, 2024 in Canon City, CO. Rob was born Feb. 9, 1951 in Schulyer, Nebraska. He was the son of Mavis N. Reeves and Grover C. Moutray who owned the Robin Hotel in Exeter, NE, where brothers Loland and Perry were born. After the tragic death of his father in 1958, the family moved to Lincoln. Rob graduated from College View Academy in 1969 and the University of Nebraska in 1973 where he completed a double major in Psychology and English Literature. After completion of an M.S. in Psychology at Fort Hays State University in 1978, he moved with his wife (Sandra Reile Moutray Schwab) and daughter Tonya to Garden City, KS, where he served as the Director of the Garden City Mental Health Center. His son, Bradley, was born in 1980, and after a family move to Colorado in 1987, Rob worked as the Director of Arvada Psychological and Family Services. In 1993, Rob and his second wife, Christie Reed, moved to Craig, CO where his second son, Andrew was born. Rob worked as a child psychologist in multiple public schools over the course of his career, including in Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs, and Canon City at McKinley Elementary, and in 2007 he completed an advanced degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Colorado, Denver. He and his third wife, Rebecca, moved to Canon City in 2012, where he continued to offer services through his private practice. President of the Board of the Greenthumb Initiative, a non-profit organization in Canon City, Rob was an invaluable member of the greater community. After the death of his beloved wife, Rebecca, in September 2024, he served as a part-time clinician for the Senior Counseling Group, LLC, until his untimely death.
An avid hiker and skier, Rob was most at home in the Rocky Mountains with his family. Weekends were spent on the slopes or out of doors basking in nature. He particularly enjoyed visiting the abandoned mining camp outside of Leadville, Colorado that his father had purchased in the 1950s and where family summers were spent. In later times, he would take his children, extended family, and even friends to visit the site.
Rob is survived by his brothers Loland (Astrid), and Perry (Marilyn Crouch). His daughter Tonya (David Baecker), and sons Brad (Missy) and Andrew (Charlie Burton), his grandchildren Benjamin, Libby, & Gabby Moutray and Eleanor & Charlotte Baecker. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Rebecca, in September of 2024, his second wife, Christie in 2020, and his mother, Mavis (Steele Moutray) Reeves in 2010.
A generous and loving spirit, Rob would have reminded us all to “chop wood and carry water” and that “love is not a pie.”
