Robert Louis (Woody) Wood passed away in the compassionate hands of the hospice care center at McKee Medical Center in Loveland, CO on June 17, 2017. Woody was the 5th son of seven children, born in Denver on July 6, 1926 to George E. and Elizabeth (Nicklis) Wood. Woody attended Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Francis de Sales High School in Denver. He graduated his junior year and went into the US Navy during World War II, serving in the Southwest Pacific area. In 1950, he graduated from University of Denver with a B.S. in civil engineering. His career took him to Texas, where he met his wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Magee). Woody and Carolyn raised their three children, Lisa, Bruce, and John in Connecticut and Pennsylvania. In 1989, he retired from Pennsylvania and Southern Gas Company and he and Carolyn returned to Colorado. Woody was a member of many service organizations, including the American Red Cross, the Boy Scouts, Indian Guides, Douglas County Master Gardener, Loveland 912 Project, the Tea Party, Society for Constitution Education, and the Lions Club of Loveland. He helped found Room to Read with his son, John. He spent most of his life in the outdoors hiking, cross-county skiing, snowshoeing, and camping. He also enjoyed oil painting, wood working, and gardening. Woody is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Magee); daughter Lisa (Wood) Morrell and her husband, Ken of Berthoud; son, Bruce, of Middleburg, FL; son, John and his wife, Amy (Powell) of Hong Kong. He is also survived by five grandchildren. No services will be held as the family was fortunate to hold a celebration of life at which they shared their memories of him.
