Robert E Murphy, 91, of Northglenn CO passed away on April 4, 2023. Robert (Bob) was born on August 26, 1931 to Emmett and Margaret Murphy in Omaha NE. After graduating high school, he volunteered to join the US Marine Corp and was shipped to Korea in 1951. He served with one of the first helicopter units to be deployed in a war zone.
When he returned home he moved to Denver CO where he met a high school alum Jeanne LaPorte. They married in 1955 and went on to have eight children.
Bob worked at Federal Envelope Company for some 30 years as a printer and was instrumental in unionizing the plant. He was a member of the First Marine Division Association, Rocky Mountain chapter where he volunteered to bring therapy pets to Vets at the VA hospital, served as a Marine representative at funerals and was the chapter’s newsletter editor for a time. He also volunteered at the Northglenn Police Department for several years. Bob was a panel speaker for Regis University’s Center of War Experience Stories of Wartime for many years. He will be remembered for his silly sense of humor, as a master storyteller, and baby whisperer, but most of all for his devotion to his family.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Jeanne, sisters and brothers-in-law Corinne and Harry Naylon and Kathleen and Dan Koperski, and his parents Emmett and Margaret. He is survived by his eight children, Michael (Jill) Murphy, Patrice (Dan) Pacheco, Mark Murphy, James Murphy, Elizabeth (Harold) Erker, John Murphy, Margaret Murphy Brammell and Matthew (Elizabeth) Murphy, and eleven grandchildren.
Services will be held at Fort Logan Cemetery on May 8th at 10:00 a.m. An Irish Wake will follow at Darcy’s Bistro and Pub, 4955 S. Ulster St. Unit 103, Denver.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the Children’s Hospital in Denver or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
