Hix, Jr. and Louise DeLorenzo Hix, and his brother James O. Hix III. He is survived by his cherished wife Christine Jensen Hix, sons Tyler and Casey, daughter Wendy Asay (Paul) and their family, and sister Sharon Booton. He is also survived by his brother’s wife Ann and numerous nieces, nephews and their children.
Bob served in the United States Marine Corps (Staff Sergeant – Series Honorman, Platoon Honorman, Blues Award, Leatherneck Magazine Award, 1974 Marine of the Year {Denver Post}). He also served in the United States Peace Corps as a Volunteer in Fiji (1983-4). He was proud to have been one of very few people to serve in both Corps.
Bob’s working career evolved around utility operations and regulations. Over a forty-five year period in the business, his proudest and most rewarding moments were being Chairman/Commissioner of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (1994-2001).
Throughout his life he was active in sports. In high school he played football, wrestling and baseball. In wrestling he finished 2nd All City and advanced to the state tournament. As an adult he played flag football, basketball, softball, volleyball, racquetball, handball, tennis, pickle ball, golf, biking and distance running. Over the years, he had played on and coached or managed about sixty different teams, some of them coaching Tyler and Casey and his nephews. For seven years he was greatly rewarded, having the opportunity to coach the Boys and Girls tennis teams at Wheat Ridge High School. He was so proud to have been made a part of the Farmer Family.
Rob loved to travel and had the opportunity to spend time in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and India. After retiring, Rob and Chris took advantage of their free time cruising, and road trips in the United States, Italy and Denmark reconnecting with their roots. They especially enjoyed their timeshare in Cabo and Puerto Vallarta.
Rob was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, but never let the cancer dictate his life until this past year. Until April of 2025 he was still enjoying all his activities, just at a slower pace. To those who were blessed to know him, we will miss his wit, sense of humor and especially his Smile.
The last several years, Bob had tried to remain close to Regis University. He encourages donations to Regis for those who wish to contribute.
Celebration of Life will take place on February 24 from 1-3 pm at Sons of Italy Hall, 5925 W 32nd Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80212, catered by Three Sons of Arvada.
