Robert (Bob) William Benson of Evergreen Colorado passed away on Monday April 28, 2025 at the age of 83 years. He grew up in Rochester Minnesota and attended Universities of Minnesota and Michigan. He continued his education at the University of California Los Angeles where he received his PhD in Toxicology and met his love Deena Susanne Keltner.
Bob worked as a teacher taking them to Louisville, Kentucky and very much welcomed his daughter, Melissa Jean Benson and son, David Alexander Benson. His job at the FDA took the family to the DC area and finally to Evergreen Colorado to work at the Environmental Protection Agency until he finally retired at the age of 80.
He lived a great independent life, enjoying his love of wine, biking and skiing! He spent his free time in the winter skiing and downhill racing with the Rocky Mountain Masters winning many trophies in his age division. In the summers you would find him on his bicycle on the paved trail along the Platte River and many biking adventures in Europe. His bicycle trips covered the distance along most of the major rivers in Europe at least once and some segments many times over. His many adventures, including a helicopter ride, experiencing the German and French medical systems, always provided stories to tell over a good glass of wine.
Bob generously donated to many organizations throughout his life including Bootstraps, Denver Rescue Mission, Food Bank of the Rockies and many others. To continue Bob’s appreciation of education and giving to the next generation, please consider donating to the Benson Family Memorial Scholarship ( https://shorturl.at/a9jWA ).
He was predeceased by his wife, his sister Jane (Benson) Adams and survived by his children and grandchildren Jayden William Benson, Abigail Claire Benson and Lily Kate Benson.
A celebration of life will be arranged for family and friends at his house on June 21, 2025. The family will spread his ashes in the mountains of Colorado per his request.
