Paul Alan (Rhino) Bennett, 62, of Bailey, Colorado passed away on March 6th, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Jean Bennett, his son, Russell Alan Bennett (Sarah), mother, Phyllis Jean Bennett, father, Paul Gordon Bennett, brother, Daniel Craig Bennett, and sister Angela Cherie Rains (Rick).
Paul was born April 20, 1961. He came into this world as amazing and as beautiful as he left it. As a kid he grew up on his Grandpa Gus’ 500-acre ranch, eight miles above Black Hawk and Central City, Colorado. He learned to chop wood, feed chickens, rabbits, cows, and horses. He would ride his bike down the hill from the house to Grandpa’s farmhouse.
He got hired on at Martin Marietta in 1982 at the young age of 19. He spent many years on TDY, which meant traveling to every missile silo in the United States and performing maintenance. He started on a classified program at Martin in 1987 and spent many months/years away from home launching satellites on the Shuttle and Titan rockets. Everyone knew Rhino and respected him tremendously. He was an expert mechanic and leader. He retired with Pamela on January 30, 2017.
Rhino loved cooking, woodworking, feeding the birds, fixing things, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed entertaining and giving to people, family, and friends alike. He had a passion for creating a meal that not only filled your belly but fed your soul as well.
Rhino never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with a rock. For many, he was the guy you called when you needed help. Whether it was just to talk, or you needed help with a project, he was your man. He would help you fix what needed fixing and you would leave with a smile.
Rhino was a husband, father, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, grandpa, but friend to all. His jokes/stories and one liners never failed to make a person laugh no matter how many times he told them. He was as caring and kind to animals as he was to people. Rhino’s passion for life, his smile, his laughter, his strength, his kind spirit, his bravery and his devotion to his family and friends will be forever remembered.
