Nancy Moon entered the Church Triumphant on February 26, 2018 at her assisted living home in Parker, Colorado. She was 88 years old, and had been in hospice for 6 months. Born Nancy Fulling on January 28, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the third (of four) children of Edith Claire Eagle Fulling and John Charles Fulling. She lived a nomadic life growing up, residing up and down the East Coast before moving west to Southern California, where she spent most of her adult life.
Nancy fostered a love of learning throughout her life, and was an avid reader. It was joked in the family that while her sister Claire had a new boyfriend in every town, Nancy had a new book. Her constant relocation resulted in her graduating from two different high schools in 1947: one in Delaware, and one in California. Nancy continued her love of learning with an AA from Long Beach City College in 1949. She attended UCLA for a year, and eventually went back to school, graduating from California State College at Long Beach in 1969 with her Bachelor of Arts in English. She continued on to obtain her California lifetime teaching credential specializing in elementary education in 1970. Her teaching career took her all over Los Angeles County before she moved north to Bodfish. While she had a wonderful career as a teacher, Nancy also prided herself on her shorthand and typing skills, becoming a Certified Professional Secretary in 1961; one of only 2,251 certified secretaries in the program! Upon her retirement from teaching in 1996 she moved to the coast, spending many of her happiest years in Lompoc.
Nancy prided herself in having diverse interests: she loved animals and nature and always had a dog (or two)! This love of animals inspired her to become a trained docent for the Los Angeles Zoo. She enjoyed collecting shells and crocheting, embroidery and crewel needlework. She loved art and interior décor and enjoyed designing layouts for furnishings. Nancy’s fondness for education showed in her teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at almost every congregation at which she was a member. She was a kind person who wanted to help people whenever and wherever she could. She took great delight in spending time with her family and friends, and loved puzzles of all kinds! One of her favorite pastimes was completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles with her grandchildren.
Nancy married late in life to Marvin Moon, who preceded her in death. Nancy is also preceded in death by her parents, her sister Claire E. Diestel, and brother John C. Fulling Jr.
Nancy is survived by her brother, Roger W. Fulling II of Macon, Georgia; her only child, Laura J. (Michael) Welter (née Beckman) of Parker, Colorado; her five grandchildren, Jennifer Welter, Matthew Welter, Margret (Christian) Willis, Hannah Welter and Benjamin (Jessica) Welter; fourteen nieces and nephews, and her five great-grandchildren.
A service of thanksgiving will be held on March 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 11453 Wesley Ave., Aurora, Colorado, 80014, of which she was a member. The mortuary is Neptune Society of Arvada, Colorado. Nancy’s ashes are to be scattered at sea off the Santa Barbara coast, just south of her beloved Lompoc.
