Nancy was born in Liberty, North Carolina on September 13, 1933, to Dr. DeLacy and Lugirty Carter Faust. At age13 she moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she attended high school and college.
She attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, then known as Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina from 1950-1953 and received her BA in chemistry in 1954.
Nancy married Lewis Harold Carter of Kelford, North Carolina on May 22, 1954. She earned an MA in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where Harold earned his Pharmacy degree.
The couple moved to Boulder, Colorado and Nancy later attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, earning her PhD in mathematics education in 1974. She was a math professor for 13 years at the University Extension in Denver.
Always in pursuit of additional knowledge, she pursued her love of library science and in 1980 she earned an MA in librarianship from Denver University. Nancy worked for 25 years at the University of Colorado Libraries in Boulder, first as part of the Music Library staff then as head of the Math and Physics Library. Harold worked as Chief Pharmacist at Wardenburg Health Center on the Boulder CU campus and retired from there.
The Carters moved to Longmont in 1996, and after retirement they traveled extensively all over the world. The couple was married for 58 years before Harold’s death in 2012. Nancy is survived by two daughters, Kay Faust Carter and her husband Chuck Evans of Oxnard, CA, and by Lucy Ellen Carter of Arden, NC. Any remembrance may be sent to Longmont Humane Society. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends, colleagues and neighbors.
