Minnie Ruth Kennedy, 88, of Denver, CO, passed away on September 10, 2023. She was born on March 2, 1935, in Columbia, SC, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Roosevelt Bookert. She was the eldest of seven children.
Minnie, also known as Minnie Ruth, was one of the most kind and generous people you could ever meet. She dedicated her life to fighting for the underprivileged and selflessly served many. Minnie's compassionate heart touched the lives of countless individuals, including taking in and raising several of her siblings’ children. Both of which, have become incredible parents and spouses. Therefore, it is for these reasons her legacy will forever be cherished.
Minnie graduated from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, obtaining a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Reading, and she also pursued a doctorate degree. She was an elementary teacher and had a passion for education. It was this passion that impacted others, and prompted many of them to pursue higher academic degrees as well.
Her faith was an integral part of her life. She faithfully served in numerous capacities and supported many charitable organizations.
Minnie enjoyed reading, cooking, making flower arrangements, helping and serving others. Her hobbies brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity and love for
others. But she was well known for her love for cooking. She enjoyed nothing more than to express her love to family, friends, and anyone that would sit for a meal in her home.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Vickie Kennedy-Hicks and Karen Kennedy-Smalls, and her only son, John G. Kennedy. She was also a beloved grandmother to Anthony Hicks, Courtney Hicks, Erika Hicks, Jaylen Kennedy, Travian Smalls, Terrence Smalls, Aaron Smalls, and Alexia Smalls. In addition, Minnie leaves behind thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren: Darius Kennedy and Adriel Kennedy; as well as her beloved husband, John Kennedy.
No memorial service is planned for Minnie Ruth Kennedy. The Neptune Society in Denver, Colorado, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Minnie Ruth will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May her memory be a blessing to us all!
