Lansing, Michigan. Born on a cold and snowy morning, January 18, 1984, in Traverse City, Michigan to Howard and Teresa Phelps. Michael passed away on August 7, 2023, in Brighton, CO. He is survived by his parents, Howard and Teresa (Izzo), Sister, Amy (Justin) Souza, Brother, Christopher Phelps, and 3 nieces, Arianna, Addyson and Ashlynne Souza. Also surviving Grandmother Darla Phelps, Aunts & Uncles: Cheryl (Dan) Grace, Mark (Tricia) Phelps, Pat (Patty) Izzo, Mike (Terry) Izzo, Tim (Linda) Izzo, Tony (Catherine) Izzo, Tom (Susie) Izzo and Michelle Izzo. Many loving great Aunts and Uncles and lots of cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Patrick & JoAnn Izzo and Grandfather Norman Phelps.
Michael was an outgoing & enthusiastic young man, a graduate of Manton Public Schools - Class of 2002. He was Class Vice President, honor roll student and played football. After graduation, he moved to East Lansing and attended Michigan State University where he studied Kinesiology.
Michael was a loving son, brother, cousin and Uncle. He was a friend to all and stranger to none. Michael had a love for nature - the great outdoors - he enjoyed taking long nature walks & hikes in the mountains - he loved all God’s creatures, dogs, cats and yes! even spiders and snakes. Michael enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was very artistic, creative and always thinking outside of the box – he had ideas for everything. Michael was very strong & competitive, he was a hard worker, dedicated to helping people and serving others. He was always singing, humming or whistling toons and he had a passion for food - He was a great cook! Michael loved with all his heart and was loved by all. He will be remembered for his acts of kindness and love. The best of him will live on in our hearts forever.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 22, 2023, 10:30 am, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917 with Father Mark Martin as celebrant. Visitation will be at 9:30 am in the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Gerard Catholic Church or to the Charity of your choice.
