With hearts both heavy and grateful, we say goodbye to our beloved Michael “Mikey” Lovato—a gentle giant, a humble hero in an apron, and quite possibly the only person who could make a video game victory and a perfectly seasoned meal feel like a warm hug.
Born in the Arizona sun on June 5, 1988, Mikey was a quiet soul with a spirit louder than words. He graduated from Job Corps, where he discovered his knack for computer programming, proving early on that brains and heart were his superpowers. But it wasn’t behind a screen that Mikey would leave his biggest legacy—it was in the places he showed up for others, day in and day out.
For 15 years, Mikey served his community with kindness (and a big smile) while working at King Soopers. Later, he found his true calling in the kitchen, preparing meals with love for the elderly at a local retirement home. It turns out, Mikey’s cooking was as comforting as his presence—and that’s saying something.
Mikey was an introvert who didn’t need the spotlight to shine. His light came through in other ways: a knowing nod, a quick laugh, a helping hand always ready. He had a deep love for anime, video games, and wolves—majestic creatures he admired for their loyalty and quiet strength. Much like himself.
He was preceded in death by loving grandparents Mario and Emma Lovato, and George Sanchez; his aunts Teresa Ruth Sanchez, Rebecca Lorona; and cousin Johnny Boy Lorona. We take comfort knowing he’s now surrounded by their love on the other side.
Mikey is survived by his devoted parents, Michelle and Mike Lovato; siblings: George Lovato, Robert Lovato, Desirey Clark, Brittany Clark, Christopher Lovato, and Karla Diaz; aunts and uncles: Vicky Peyro & Adolfo Galindo, Rose & Fernando Yanez, Pauline & David Hendryx, Fedelia Lovato & Frank Chavez, Rebecca & Mario Molina, Christine & Brad Hancock, Bobby Lovato & Victoria Jaramillo, Anthony George Sanchez, Felipe Rene Sanchez, Melinda Sanchez, Victoria Garza; and an entire army of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Whether you knew him as Mikey, the big-hearted gamer, the culinary caregiver, or just the guy who always helped carry in the groceries without being asked—he left his mark on all of us.
