Mary Sanchez was born on May 24, 1936, in Valdez, Colorado, to Cora Gonzalez and Lute Garcia. She grew up alongside her two brothers, Alfred and Danny.
Mary met the love of her life, Joe (Arthur) Sanchez, in Cimarron, New Mexico. She was 18 and Joe was 17 when their paths first crossed. Their love continued to grow, and in 1955, they moved to Denver, Colorado, where they began building their life and family together.
Mary and Joe were blessed with eight children: Connie, Teresa, twins Joe and Johnny, Loretta, Ray, Maryann, and later, Robert. Family was at the heart of Mary's life, and she devoted herself to the people she loved.
Mary had many passions throughout her life. She enjoyed exercising, crocheting, and especially camping. For 33 years, she was a proud member of the Big Horn Caravan, where she created countless memories with family and friends. Some of their favorite camping destinations included Glenwood Springs, Turquoise Lake, Twin Lakes, and, later in life, Barber Ponds at St. Vrain State Park.
Mary was also a member of the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed the companionship, friendship, and fellowship of others.
Mary lived with dementia for several years and later faced a short battle with cancer. On September 18, 2026, she peacefully made her journey home, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her brother Alfred and her sons Johnny and Georgey.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Joe A. Sanchez; her daughters, Loretta, Maryann, Teresa, and Connie; her sons, Ray, Joe Jr., and Robert; and numerous grandchildren, who will carry her memory and love with them always.
Mary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, strength, love of family, and the countless memories she created will remain in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
Her journey on Earth may have come to an end, but the love she gave and the memories she created will live on forever.
