It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the death of Mary Osgood. Mary Elizabeth Osgood (1/23/1935 – 10/23/2020) died peacefully in her sleep Friday afternoon. We all know that she was a champion survivor, and her passing was just how she would have wanted it, peacefully at home and with daughters by her side. Jim Kok, minister from Holly Creek, paid a visit and prayed with Mary and her girls Friday morning. Eric Smith, minister from First Plymouth Congregational Church (where Mary had been a member since 1969) arrived upon Mary’s passing and provided much needed comfort and prayer.
Mary loved spending time with family and friends, traveling the world, hiking, gardening, painting, reading, and she loved learning. Professionally she was both a teacher and an artist. Many may remember her exquisite watercolors. Mary, along with her “baby brother” Chuck, co-authored two books.
Mary left her mark in the Denver community. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, volunteered on the auxiliary board for the American Lung Association of Colorado, delivered meals for Project Angel Heart, was honored as the Kappa Alpha Theta Woman of the Year, raised funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and co-founded the Listening Post, a program that put retired teachers in public school to engage elementary students in conversations.
Short of stature, powerful of will and possessed with a deep joy for life and family, Mary was a warm and fun-loving mom, wife, sister, friend, and unrelenting family genealogist. Through her life she remained sharp, interested, loving and loved. Such wonderful memories we have all had.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Kris Kelly, Suzy (Steve) Jonsen, Lynn (Dan) Rooney, and her husband, Norman Plunkett of Atlanta, GA. Grammary was beloved by her grandchildren, Bryan and Caroline Kelly, Drew, Blake (Eriana) and Hannah Jonsen, and Paige and Grace Rooney. Her brother, Chuck Osgood, with whom she shared a love of genealogy, also survives Mary.
Details of a celebration of Mary's life will be shared at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to JDRF at www.JDRF.org
Rest in peace, Mary and breathe freely.
