Martin Julius Hammer, Jr., of Colorado Springs, CO passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born on May 5,1939 in Cripple Creek, CO and grew up in Divide, CO. He and his family lived on the ranch until he turned 7, and then moved to a house in Divide so he could catch the bus for school.
He graduated from Woodland Park High School class of 1958. Martin joined the US Navy in 1960 and was deployed on the USS Randolph as a helicopter mechanic. After 4 years of service, Martin was honorably discharged. Soon after, he began his own carpet installation business. He retired in 2001 after moving back to the family ranch in Divide, where he built his dream home with his wife, Jackie.
Martin was actively involved with his family, working and playing on the ranch, and traveling to many places from Florida to Washington and Alaska during his lifetime. He loved to go hunting and fishing every time he could. One year he quit his job to help his brother-in-law with the harvest so they could go hunting together. He always had the most interesting fish stories to tell.
Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Sr. and Eva Hammer; his siblings, Fred, Margaret, Roy, Marie, Helen, and Martha.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Jackie; 4 children, Janice (Tim McCandless), Tera, Chris (Renae), Renae (Chad Rockwell); 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank everyone for the care and compassion they showed our beloved Martin in his final days.
