Lois Marie Smith, wife, mother, sister, auntie, grandmother (Grammie) and friend to all, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on December 10, 2024, at the age of 82. While her family and friends will miss her deeply, they take solace in knowing that she lived a life full of love, laughter, and margaritas!
Born in Illinois on February 11, 1942, Lois moved to Colorado with her family in grade school. She built a life and family she was extremely proud of in Arvada CO. Lois stood out for her warmth, kindness, and uncanny knack for making everyone feel special, whether they were related by blood or by shared smiles over one of her famous homemade meals or cakes.
As a young adult, Lois loved driving, she even got her license early and took every opportunity to cruise or even drag race—she found great joy in music, concerts, cooking and spending time with friends and family. A talented home cook, her Christmas Eve parties, meatballs and ravioli are legendary! Lois was also an avid cross-stitcher and an enthusiastic bowler - competing in leagues and even scoring an elusive 300, Lois believed life was meant to be celebrated, whether it was with her close family or her many many friends.
Lois was so proud of her work as a medical transcriptionist, she worked for her family doctor for many years where she was a treasured team member. Lois was always ready to lend a helping hand, give a word of encouragement, or share a story that would leave you laughing long after the punchline.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles T. Smith; her parents, Helen and Wilbur Evertz; and her brother, Jim Evertz. She is survived by her sons, Tim Smith (Sharon) and Kevin Smith (Justine); her cherished grandchildren; her sister Karen Richard; and her brother Chuck Evertz. She leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and many many delicious recipes her family will forever treasure.
Lois' legacy will always reminded us that life is sweeter with kindness, richer with generosity, and always better with a slice of cake. Rest easy, Lois—your love and laughter will forever echo in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, Lois would have wanted donations made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital, a cause close to her heart. She believed in helping those in need, especially children, and would be thrilled to see others carrying on her legacy of care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Active Adult Center, Prospect Hall, 6363 W 35th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. It will be a gathering of family and friends to honor Lois’s incredible spirit and share stories of the joy she brought to their lives.
