Liana Ruth Lansing

The eldest daughter of Bob and Gladys Lansing, Liana made her Metropolitan Opera debut as a sleeping baby in a stroller pushed by her mother, Met Chorus member, Gladys Lansing. Born to a very musical family, Liana grew up in Manhattan while her parents were members of the Met Opera chorus.

Liana was advanced for her age and skipped two grade levels in elementary school. When the family relocated to Denver, Liana graduated from Denver East High School at the tender age of 16 and earned a full scholarship to New England Conservatory in Boston in the opera program as a mezzo-soprano. Liana earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance from New England Conservatory.

Liana was a freelance musician in New York City, including the New York City Opera, many houses of worship and some off broadway shows. She also toured Europe, Asia and Australia with the Rocky Mountain Singers.

Liana moved to Denver in 1985 following the death of her brother John Lansing. She performed all over Denver including Mario’s Italian restaurant, many church choirs, ensembles and was on the board of the Denver Opera Collective where she served as chorus master and musical and stage director for scenes in 2016.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Liana became a choir conductor at several churches around Denver including Christ Congregational Church, Holy Ghost Church, Washington Park Methodist and others. She earned her second master’s degree in Choral Conducting from University of Colorado at Boulder. Some of the choirs she led were Shir Ami, the Welsh Choir, Rocky Mountain Singers, Northland Chorale, the Gal-axies, and the New Chords. She also taught private voice lessons.

For the past several seasons, Liana sang with the Never on Sundays choir, performed in one act plays, took tap dancing and yoga classes at Windsor Gardens.
