Born on the family farm in Scotland, SD. He enjoyed hunting and horsemanship while growing up.
He joined the Navy after graduation from Scotland High School. After discharge from the Navy, he attended Sioux Falls College.
While at Sioux Falls College, he met his wife Joyce Steinke and married on August 22, 1964. He graduated with a B.A. Degree in History from Sioux Falls College. He later attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
He worked the next 12 years in banking. After some life changes, he decided to attend Northern Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls SD. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Divinity.
He worked as a hospital chaplain at Saint Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, S.D. for 9 years. After resigning from the hospital, he worked part time as supplemental pastor at a small church in SD.
After becoming disabled, he and Joyce moved to Aurora, CO in 1995. He enjoyed attending Navy reunions. And was proud of his service.
He was an avid sports fan. He loved to read. He loved collecting coins and cross necklaces.
He loved to tease people and make them laugh.
Survived by his wife, Joyce Behl of 54 years, his daughters Dawn Bartel (John) and Danielle Weber (Randy), his grandchildren Christopher Weber, Trevor Bartel, Hayley Bartel, and Jocelyn Weber, his sister Lorene Weidenbach, and numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by both his parents, Daniel Vern Behl and Dorothy Mitchell Behl and two brothers Donald Behl and Louis Behl.

Burial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver CO at a later date.
