

He had one brother, Randolph (Randy) Whitman. Larry was raised on a farm in Aurora where the Gaylord of the Rockies sits and farmed the area that is now Denver International Airport. Larry graduated from Hinkley High School in Aurora.
Larry joined the Aurora Police Department and began a long police career. When Larry left Aurora PD he was hired by Cherry Hills Village Police Department where he worked in patrol, as a training officer and as a detective handling several large cases. Larry left Cherry Hills PD and continued his career at Denver Police Department. In Denver Larry found his true happiness in his career and remained there until retiring in 2008. Larry began his Denver career by working patrol in District 1 and formed many lifelong friendships here. He left patrol and moved to the mounted horse patrol unit. Some of his best memories were from this unit and riding his horse in Denver. While in the mounted unit, he became involved in several high profile event, riots in Denver, parades, and Columbine High School shooting. His final assignment was at Denver International Airport where he became a member of the K-9 unit. Larry went to San Antonio Texas for bomb training and to be assigned his dog - Rex. A Dutch Shepherd who was to become his best buddy, that bond was unbreakable. Larry fought to keep Rex who had been diagnosed with lupus and in the end the government allowed him to remain with Larry. Together Rex joined the family and traveled the USA in retirement.
Larry loved to travel and to take his fifth wheel and spend winters in Florida. Travel was world wide and he had a bucket list that was completed after being in Egypt and cruising the Panama Canal. Time traveling was the best when we shared it with friends.
Larry was married to his wife, Patricia (Pat) Whitman in 1986. They built a home in Littleton and joined their children to the family. Larry's daughter, Shelly LeBlanc (Robby) Charlotte, NC, and Pats children, Paul Mayotte (Cathy) Yoder, CO, Christina Perry (Jason) Highlands Ranch CO, and Connie McConico Denver, CO. Larry and Pat have 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
Larry will be remembered as a quiet, humble man who loved and supported his family. A man who loved travel, friends, history, his 1930 Model A, and a good beer. He will always be loved and be an inspiration to those who were lucky enough to get to know this quiet man.
