Kathleen “Kathy” Dubus, 77, peacefully passed away at her home on December 28th, 2024, at 8:00 a.m., surrounded by cherished memories and the presence of her husband, Arthur. Born under the wide-open Wyoming skies of Cheyenne and raised on a cattle ranch just a little north of town, Kathy lived a life as expansive as the plains she called home—full of love, laughter, and the occasional rogue cow.
Kathy’s story truly began when she left Wyoming for Oklahoma, pursuing higher education and accidentally stumbling upon her greatest adventure—love. There, she met Arthur Dubus, the dashing man who would become her partner in all things. Together, they built a life as rich and layered as the novels Kathy adored, raising four children and filling their home with the joyful chaos of family life.
No home was complete for Kathy without the pitter-patter of paws and the soulful gaze of her “four-legged babies.” Snacks were rarely just hers—she happily shared with her furry companions, who seemed to understand that Kathy’s generous spirit extended to all creatures. An unofficial patron saint of Scotties, Kathy’s unwavering belief that every animal deserved a loving home (and a bottomless treat jar) inspired all who knew her. Kathy lived simply, loved deeply, and left the world better than she found it. Her legacy reminds us to savor life’s simple joys: a good book, snacks, and the wag of a happy tail.
Preceded in death by her parents and her twin brother, Kathy now joins the great roundup in the sky, undoubtedly welcomed with open arms and perhaps a playful nudge from her many past companions. Her legacy of love, resilience, and humor continues in the lives of her husband, Arthur; her children Alisa (Allen), Kenneth (Jenn), Keeley (Chris), and Andrea (Shane); her eight grandchildren; and her twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom carry her spark of kindness and wit.
Kathy believed life should be celebrated, not mourned. Honoring her wishes, there will be no formal services. Instead, a small gathering of family and close friends will take place at her home on January 3rd, 2025. Here, stories will be shared, laughter will echo, and perhaps a snack or two will mysteriously disappear into the paws of a furry guest.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Scotty Rescue of the Rockies in Kathy’s name, ensuring her love for animals continues to inspire and create wagging tails for years to come.
