Karen Chaffee, 72, of Boulder, CO, passed away March 22, 2017 in Boulder. Karen was born October 16, 1944, in Dodge City, KS to Robert and Margaret Chaffee. She grew up in Austin, MN, where she graduated from Pacelli High School. Karen attended Minneapolis Business College, and shortly after graduating Karen began her career at IBM in Rochester, MN. She relocated a few times during her career and spent time in Boulder, CO, Toronto, Canada, and San Jose, CA. After retiring from IBM, Karen found a passion in caring for animals as a professional pet sitter and began her business, KC Pet Sitting & Hotel for small, mature dogs. Along with running her business she volunteered at animal shelters and other animal rescue organizations. Her heart always went out to the senior animals who found themselves without a home. Karen was a member of the Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church choir.
Karen is survived by her sister, Michelle “Mickey” (Douglas) Balzer, Rochester, MN, and many friends around the country. Her parents preceded her in death. Her family, friends, and fur friends will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Boulder, with Deacon Jim Mackin officiating. There will be a private interment held at a later date at Angels Rest Cemetery, Kanab, UT.
