John (Jack) Charles Pool
John C. Pool age 88, died peacefully on January 17, 2019 in Denver, CO. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles K. and Marie A. Pool and brother Charles Pool III.
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, John relocated his family to Colorado in 1962. John enjoyed working in the aerospace industry as an engineering technician with Martin Marietta (now Lockheed-Martin), a career which spanned more than 3 decades. Some of the projects he participated in included the Viking Lander, the first spacecraft to successfully soft land on the planet Mars, The Manned Maneuvering Unit (MMU) which permitted astronauts to work untethered in space, and various upgrades to the country’s missile defense systems. He retired in 1989.
An outdoorsman at heart, he loved Colorado and the lifestyle it represented. John loved sport shooting of all kinds including black powder and archery. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping and travelling around the country with family and friends. John and Gloria were members of a Ghost town club where they followed many historic trails like the Great Oregon Trail. He also enjoyed playing cards with groups of friends and game nights with the family. John participated in bible studies with his men’s group and was an active usher at church. An outgoing personality, He enjoyed meeting new people and visiting old friends.
John was also active with the Masons and Eastern Star. He held the position of 32nd Degree with the Colorado Consistory and recently received his 60 year service pin with the Blue Lodge, Weston Lodge #22, AF & AM in Littleton.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria, Sister Elizabeth (Al) Myers-Fertig, Son Keith (Shelley) Pool and Daughter Celia (Mark) Blackwood. Grandchildren Zachary (Becky) Pool, Nicholas (Melissa) Pool, Brittany (David) Braun, and Steven Blackwood. Additionally, John is survived by 15 great-grandchildren: December, Grace, Keaton, Tobias, Lillian, Zane, Jude and Malachi Pool, Josiah, Isaac, Jon and Anna Pool, and Caleb, Maisy and Janie Braun.
John will be deeply missed by all.
