Jeanne Marie Murphy died peacefully at her home at dawn on July 14th, 2018 at the age of 86. She was surrounded by family. She was born on March 20th, 1932 to Romeo J. LaPorte and Beryle LaPorte. Jeanne attended Cathedral High School in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated in 1950 as the Valedictorian. She then attended Saint Mary’s College in Omaha and received a degree in Phlebotomy. Jeanne moved to Denver, Colorado in 1954 and began work as a lab technician for a small family practice doctor’s office owned by Drs. Wilkoff and Wagschall. In Denver, she was reunited with Bob Murphy, whom she had attended high school with in Omaha. They were married on October 8, 1955 and celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Jeanne had a passion for reading and music. She was the lead soprano in many musical productions in high school. She was a member of her church choir at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Northglenn for many years and then for a community choir named Tapestry in the latter years of her life. She loved to sing. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had eight children and eleven grandchildren and loved to spend time with them all.
She was preceded in death by her parents Romeo and Beryle LaPorte and her brother Don LaPorte. She is survived by her husband Robert Emmett Murphy; son Michael (Jill) Murphy of Mancos, CO; daughter Patrice (Dan) Pacheco of Albuquerque, NM; son Mark Murphy of Parker, CO; son James Murphy of Loveland, CO; daughter Elizabeth (Harold) Erker of Roggen, CO; son John Murphy of Louisville, CO; daughter Margaret Brammell of Valrico, FL; and son Matthew (Liz) Murphy of Denver, CO; grandchildren Andrew Murphy; Jeanne, Lauren and Alex Erker; Ryan and David Pacheco; Colin, Naomi and Annie Brammell, and Keara and Catriona Erickson-Murphy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 25th at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mark Catholic Church, 3141 West 96th Ave. in Westminster, CO 80031. She will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave. Denver, CO 80236 on Thursday, July 26th at 11:15 a.m.
