Jean Marlene Utter was a bright light in every life she touched. Born on Halloween, it’s no surprise she brought tricks and treats to everyone she met. Jean was a lover of laughter and an expert in the art of practical jokes, her sense of humor delighting her family and friends through the years.
Jean had a passion for the simple joys in life: tending to her flower garden, setting up the perfect campsite, cheering on her beloved Denver Broncos (even when they tested her patience), and embracing the magic of Christmas with childlike wonder. No one loved Christmas quite like Jean—she didn’t just celebrate it; she lived it, filling her home with twinkling lights, holiday music, and a warmth that could melt the coldest of winter days.
Above all, Jean adored her family. She cherished being a wife to her beloved William H. Utter and a wonderful mother to Kimberly Rayas, Sally Estrada, Kevin Utter, and Derek Utter. She loved holding William’s hand as they strolled through life together, a simple yet profound testament to their love. As a grandmother, Jean was the ultimate hype woman—always showing up, cheering loudest, and making sure every family moment felt like a celebration. Her love extended across generations to her 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, who will carry forward her boundless joy and wisdom.
Jean’s humility and kindness defined her. She gave generously of her time and energy, always putting others first. She was the person you could count on, the one who could turn a bad day around with her infectious optimism and a hug that felt like home.
Preceded in death by her cherished twin sister Judy Wolfe and her dear sisters Vesta Sexton and Delores Arguello, Jean’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who survive her: her loving husband William, her four children, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held July 5, 2025 in lieu of the anniversary party.
