Jay was born in Gordon, Nebraska April 3, 1931, the third son of a farming and ranching family. He stayed in the Sandhills of Nebraska, until he earned his BS in Physics at Chadron State College. He joined the Army and served during the Korean War, later returning to Nebraska where he met and married his wife, Jean, in 1955. They were married 69 years, until her death in September 2024.
Jay had a career based in electronics and computer sciences, including teaching at the University of Denver and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott (AZ). After retiring, Jay and Jean moved to Grand Junction/Montrose where he volunteered with AARP, Friends of the Library, and the Ute Indian Museum. More recently they moved to the Golden area. He is survived by two children, five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; along with cousins, nieces and nephews. Jay loved walks in nature, always had a smile, and a positive attitude about life. His upbeat response to anyone asking “How was he?”: a hardy “Just right!”
