James was the first of two sons born to Fred B Haselwood and Alice Tucker Haselwood. He was born in Illinois, but at 3 months old, his mother and father returned to Colorado where they were worked the Tucker Family dryland wheat farm in Arvada.
At 17, James enlisted in the Army and was a part of the Army Corps of Engineers. He served to help in the reconstruction of Japan. When he returned home, he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Casper Wyoming, where met his wife, Celeste Baker. They moved to Fort Collins, Colorado where James earned his degree in Civil Engineering. They moved back to Wyoming where he worked as a rough neck for Standard Oil. In 1962, James became Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor and started his own company, Haselwood Engineering and Surveying. He and Celeste then settled in Nederland ,Colorado.
James loved flying airplanes, so he flew and drove everywhere he ever wanted to when he wanted to.
James is survived by his daughter, Jane and her husband Randy Mauro; his son, Tom Haselwood. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Angie White, Kristin Turner, Laura Johnson, Randi Jayne Mauro, Sarah Haselwood and Cole Hanson. At the time of his passing, he was also the great-grandfather of 10 and great-great-grandfather of 1. James was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother and youngest daughter, Alice Hanson who passed away in 2010.
James was a true cowboy at heart, who loved his family, friends, and the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
He will be buried in Nederland Cemetery with his family. Interment and services are pending.
