James Edward Grosshans, born May 30, 1927, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 18, 2017, surrounded by his children. Born in North Platte, Nebraska to Edward and Mildred Grosshans, he was preceded in death by his parents: Edward and Mildred, brothers: Don, Benny, Marvin, Dale and Earl; also, his wife of 61 years, Shirley, and oldest daughter, Gail. He is survived by brother Gerald (Mary) Grosshans and sisters: Margie Buschman, Carol (Bob) Hemker, and Ruthie (Jay) Gohl, children: Edward (Patchie) Grosshans, Linda Stratton, Cheryl (Ana) Grosshans, Peggy Masters, and Diane (Rodney) Buckalew; grandchildren: Jason (Gina) Jenks, Amy (Andy) Minter, Rachel (Dan) Zeman, Heather Grosshans-Walker, Ashlin (Dustin) Jones, Zebulon (Nicole) Masters, Levi (Chelsey) Masters, Katrina Masters, Samuel (Holly) Masters, Janine (Mike) DiPaolo, James Tarr, Dustin (Kristy) Buckalew and Zack (Emily) Buckalew; great-grandchildren: Riley Jenks, Augustus DiPaolo, Alexandra DiPaolo, Zaden Masters, Sophie Masters, Addison Masters, Christian Masters, Waylon Masters, Braden Minter, Kanin Zeman, Baily Zeman, Haley Buckalew, Dylan Buckalew, Ashton Buckalew, Landon Hopkins, Ryan Buckalew and Blake Buckalew. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. Jim grew up in North-Eastern Colorado and attended school in Merino, Colorado. He served in the United States Army Corp at the end of WWII and then served in Korea for the remainder of his service. After military service, he worked as a ranch-hand in Colorado and surrounding states. He also participated in area rodeos as a bronc-rider and bull-rider. Jim settled down and married Shirley Velnora Johnson in 1951 and started a career in the electrical business. He spent thirty-eight years with Sturgeon Electric Company as a lineman, foreman, general-foreman and retiring as Director of Safety. He belonged to the IBEW Union for sixty-five years and recently received recognition with an award and service pin. Jim’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and chariot racing. He remained the ultimate cowboy even after moving to the city. His grandchildren enjoyed wearing his boots and hats as babies and toddlers. Every one of them teethed on the pipes he was well-known for smoking. He treasured being a grandpa and attended football and baseball games, wrestling matches, band concerts, plays, graduations and weddings. As patriarch of the Grosshans family, Jim was a devoted brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
The memorial service for our beloved father will be April 4th, 2017, 10:00am, at the Good News Community Church, 5511 W. 136th Avenue, Broomfield, CO, 80020. There will be interment at the Brush Cemetery at a later date.
