George was born on November 8, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Eileen and Robert Wittenberg. He grew up in Chicago and Roselle, Illinois.
George served in the U.S. Army active duty for 2 years at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri and 4 years as a reservist in Illinois.
He spent his entire career working in the food service industry; first for Kraft Foods and then Leprino Foods.
George was actively involved in family activities, church participation and always enjoyed a good round of golf.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Douglas Wittenberg: and his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Edwin Greve.
George is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis Wittenberg; his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia (Andrew) Lieb; his cherished daughter-in-law, Jennifer Wittenberg; and his caring brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dian Wittenberg. He was an adored Papa George to nine wonderful grandchildren; Jack, Ryan and Brandon Lieb and Stella, Louise, Jacob, Andrew, Micah and Luke Wittenberg
George’s greatest joy was to simply spend time with his family and many close friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him; the world was a better place with him in it.
Friends and loved ones are invited to attend a memorial service at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 920 Kipling St., Lakewood, Colorado 80215 on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:30am. The service will be followed by lunch in the church fellowship hall.
