So sorry for your loss.  However, Erwin Paul has so far won the title of longest living Bretscher cousin. I hope to break it one day.  Erwin Paul was, along with Caroline, the oldest cousins, I was the youngest by 20 years.  We would cross paths only occasionally but before I flew the coop after college I would see his mom on Christmas Eve as she would have a Bretscher get together at her apartment on 1st. So sorry for your loss. Erwin Paul was a genuine, sincere and engaging guy that you couldn’t help but like. Thoughtful too. He and Jim came to my mom’s funeral in 1996 which surprised my dad and we all appreciated it very much.  What a great guy. His Christmas letter was some of my favorite Holiday reading. A had not seen Erv for nearly a decade, but memories of Erv surfaced from time to time.  I first met Erv when he was serving as a Senior Advisor to the American Stop Smoking Intervention Trial (ASSIST).  This trial represented the first significant, dedicated funding the U.S. Government invested to reduce smoking and tobacco use.  I was the Colorado PI on the ASSIST Project.  
     I later crossed paths with Erv when he served as a Senior Scientist on staff at Klein Buendel, an independent communications research company in Golden, Colorado.  During his time there I recruited him to serve on my dissertation committee.  
     Erv was a stalwart in the communications research world. I will never forget him entering his KB office, with his leather brief case and  the wisdom he imparted with his sage advice.  - Snip Young, PhD
