A cum laude graduate in Finance of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, he is the author of five books published for individual investors. He served twice on the faculty of the Annual Congress on the Psychology of Investing, under the auspices of Harvard University. He was a speaker to various gatherings of the American Association of Individual Investors throughout the country more than 80 times, including three times at its annual national conventions, focusing on the psychology of investing, and on helping individual investors cope in an institutionally dominated trading environment.
After college he served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. Following his discharge, he was with Cambridge, MA-based Arthur D. Little, Inc., an international strategy-based consulting firm for 12 years. Don was on the board of directors of Citizens for Limited Taxation, responsible for the Proposition 2 1/2 ballot initiative petition adopted by voters of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1980. He moved to Denver in 1986, where he was a Vice-President and retail equities analyst with Boettcher & Co. He joined Lipper Analytical Services in 1990 as Manager of Closed-End Funds Research. After retirement he founded the nonprofit Retirement Investing Institute. A life-long Boston Red Sox fan and baseball enthusiast, Don umpired Little League baseball from 1970 to 1996.
Don will be dearly missed and is survived by his devoted wife, Belita Calvert; daughter, Laura Cassidy-Moffatt (Howard), Greeley, CO; son, Michael Cassidy, Holliston, MA; brother, Dale Cassidy (Cathy), Arlington, TX; grandson, Matthew Ham, Ashland, MA; cousin, Carolyn McMonegal, New York City; nephew, Scott Cassidy, Austin, TX; and niece, Sara Alton (Jacob), Dallas, TX.
Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetary, Denver, Colorado.
