Dennis was born November 14, 1942 in York, Nebraska to Edward and Josephine (Steckman) Ulmer. He graduated from Sutton Public Schools in 1960 and continued his education for a year at the University of Nebraska.
Dennis enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served on active duty from 1961 to 1963 on the USS Hornet, and the Navy Reserves until 1967 as a Petty Officer Third Class. He travelled to many ports in the Pacific including the Philippines, Japan, Guam, and Hawaii.
Dennis joined his father farming south of Sutton, Nebraska and later Haxtun, Colorado. He sold the farm in 2006 and had numerous jobs until 2010. He then gained employment at the Larry Anderson Family Farm north of Haxtun as a truck driver, mechanic, and all around farm hand.
Dennis loved oldies music, coin collecting, old radios, playing cards with family and reminiscing with his high school classmates, and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters Michelle (Robert) Spanyard and Marla (Kevin) Merrill of Tucson, AZ., son Jason (Naomi) of Colorado Springs, CO. and step-children Travis of Haxtun, CO., Trevor (Brandy) of Kersey, CO. , and Tennille Allen of Haxtun, CO.; sisters Julie (Robert) Parkerson of Tucson, AZ. and Carol (Jerry) Erickson of Sutton, NE.; brother-in-law David Landstrom (Tina) of San Carlos Sonora, Mexico; grandchildren Hailey and Sydney Merrill, Gage (Hope), and Kyra, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Josephine.
Dennis battled Chronic Leukemia for 10 years before he declined from the cancer.
