Dean F Hill

Dean Franklin Hill passed away on December 7, 2017 in Jefferson County, Colorado at the age of 77. Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Mona Hill, in May, 2010. Together they enjoyed 44 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Dean Hill and Harriet Hill; brother, Robert Hill and sister, Jean Southern. Surviving Dean are his children, Christopher Hill of Moab, Utah and Liz Kattman (husband John) of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren Madeliene Kattman of Toronto, Ontario and Cassius and Juniper Hill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; stepmother, Connie Hill; half sister Judy Lash; and stepbrothers, Rick and Bill Walker. Dean was born on February 2, 1940 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from Sussex High School in Sussex, New Jersey. He was an Eagle Scout. He earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Georgia Tech, and did graduate studies in chemistry at the University of Colorado. His professional career was spent in the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as supervisor of the pesticide program for Region 8 and later managing a program for the National Enforcement Investigations Center (NEIC) enforcing EPA pesticide regulations. Following his retirement from the government, he worked as a consultant with Quality Associates, Inc. inspecting facilities for compliance with regulations. Mona and Dean shared a lifelong passion for outdoor activities including birdwatching, camping and hiking. Dean enjoyed stamp collecting and photography, and had bird photographs published in Colorado Field Ornithology publications. Over the years, his photography and art work decorated the walls of their homes in Golden, Coal Creek Canyon, San Francisco, Lakewood, Boulder, and Cortez. Dean had a quiet, introspective soul and his dry wit will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Per Dean's request, there will be no formal memorial service.
