Carol Sue Sanborn

Obituary of Carol Sue Sanborn

Carol Sue Sanborn was born on June 6, 1948 in Salina, Kansas to William R. and Mildred I. Sanborn. She graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina Kansas with a Master’s Degree in Education in 1970. She taught physical education and health class in Oakley Kansas for 31 years. During her teaching career Miss “Sue” Sanborn also coached volleyball and track, winning 6 state championship titles. The Oakley Plainsmen won four straight volleyball titles in 1981, 1982, 1983 & 1984. They also won a track state title in 1983. Another volleyball championship was won in 1993. Sue touched the lives of many students with her calm and caring nature.

During retirement, Carol Sue was able to travel and spend time with family and friends all over the country and in Europe. In 2005 she moved to Aurora, Colorado to be near family and the Rocky Mountains. In 2012, she met companion, Lee Clifford and happily spent the last years of her life together with him. Aunt Sue was always the Fun Aunt, game to do just about anything with her 10 nieces and nephews and later all their children.

Carol Sue is survived and will be missed greatly by her loving companion, Lee Clifford, his daughter Heather Newbrough (Keith) and their three children of Parker, CO. Her Sister, Linda Ford (Cole) Ipswich, England, Brother, LL Sanborn (Barbara) Hutchinson, KS. Nieces, Jill Gehrke (Todd), Stacey Bryant (Adam), Stefanie Sanborn-Miller (Mike), Debi Lockwood (Jerry), Nephews, John Ditto II, Michael Sanborn (Paula), Roger Sanborn, James Vance (Donna) and Les Sanborn II, 13 Great Nieces & Nephews and 5 Great Great Nieces & Nephews.

Carol Sue was preceded in death by her parents, brothers David and William Sanborn, sister Joyce Ditto and niece Jana Ditto.

In lieu of funeral services and to honor Sue’s memory, donations can be made to the Oakley High School Volleyball program, 118 W 7th St., Oakley, KS 67748.
