C. Gerald Vlaanderen, "Jerry", age 88, passed away peacefully in his Northglenn home on January 4, 2017. He is survived by Sharon, his wife of 66 years, his children, Sheri Marsing, Cris Vlaanderen and Randy Vlaanderen, 8 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is proceeded in death by his Grandson, Brian Vlaanderen. Jerry was born in Ogden, Utah on May 19, 1928 to Gerald and Agatha Vlaanderen. He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many responsible positions over the years. Jerry was a veteran of WW2 and afterward received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of Utah. Jerry's accounting career began at Hill AFB in Utah. He was given the opportunity to take his family to Japan for nine years. He worked as an Accounting Controller at Tachikawa AFB. The family chose to return to the States from Japan, in 1968, where he worked at Lowry AFB until his retirement. In his later years, he enjoyed an association with the Dental Center in Thornton. He used his dry sense of humor, many talents and unique wisdom to enrich the lives of others throughout his life. He was never idle and always had a project. A celebration of life will be held on his birthday in May for friends and family. "Gramps" left his family with a wonderful legacy to follow.
