Brenda Lee Smith (Irvin), aged 65, passed away from pancreatic cancer at her home on October 19, 2024, in Aurora Colorado. Born on July 12, 1959, in Camp Springs, Maryland, Brenda was a vibrant spirit known for her love of the Lord Jesus and her lively personality.
She spent her early years at Randolph AFB Elementary in San Antonio, Texas, and Upper Heyford Element and Junior High School in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, England. She graduated from George Washington High School in Denver, Colorado in 1977. She dedicated herself to a life of service and community, reflected in her academic and professional choices. She graduated from Colorado State University (Go Rams!) in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work with a minor in Sociology.
Brenda’s career was marked by her role as a KRONOS Administrator at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, where she worked from 2009 until her passing. Other places of work included Aurora Public Schools as a paraprofessional, Sable Rehab Hospital as an Adult Social Worker, and the Department of Defense as a payroll administrator. Brenda took a break from the workforce from 1999–2005 to homeschool her children.
Her spiritual life was deeply rooted in Fusion Ministries International in Greeley, Colorado, where she was an active participant. Brenda always found herself in a leadership position at most churches she attended, volunteering in ways such as teaching children’s church, leading women’s Bible study, and participating on worship team. Brenda’s faith and dedication to her community were evident in how she lived and interacted with those around her.
Brenda was an enthusiastic lover of outdoor water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. She often dreamt of relaxing in a lounge on white sandy beaches. Those cherished moments were a dream she held close to her heart. Additionally, she found great joy in gardening and cooking.
Brenda was always willing to help those around her. Whether that was with food, clothing, places to stay, or donations. Brenda always opened her home when people needed a place to stay and never expected anything in return.
Her love for music spanned listening, playing, and dancing. Brenda’s passion for dance was evident in her impeccable sense of rhythm and movement. She won dance competitions while in college and took tap classes in 2022. She was spitfire who enjoyed playing games, always bringing joy to those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Brenda fought the good fight and finished the race strong.
Brenda is survived by her loving husband, Allan; her children, Leah (Roseville, MI) and Matthew; daughter-in-law Amy; grandson Dashiell (all of Garden City, MI); sister Barbara West (Colorado Springs, CO); brother T.R. Irvin (Florissant, CO) and many beloved nieces and nephews across the globe. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas (1984) and Shirley (2019) Irvin.
Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 25, 2024 in Funsion Ministries International, 815 14th Street, Greeley, CO 80631.Dress is colorful casual.
