Bonnie Mabel Pivacek was born in Chester Pennsylvania on January 5th, 1946. She grew up on their family farm with her brothers and sisters and eventually made her way to Tampa Florida with her mother Florence White, now deceased. She graduated from King High School in 1964 and worked at a bottle factory for many years. She had four children in the years 1965-1977, to whom she devoted her life. In the early 1980s she became a single mother and went to school for nursing, from which she graduated with honors. She then began her career as an LPN at the Veterans Health Administration Hospital (VA) in Tampa Fla. She loved her job and patients, possessing the magical “touch” of placing people at ease while administering care. She transferred to three VA Hospitals: one in Roanoke VA, another in Atlanta GA to be closer to family, and the last in Denver CO where she retired after 25 years of exemplary service.
She bought her first home in 2008, where she lived with her youngest son Charles Jeff until her death. It was her great pride to own a home, and in her later years Charles cared for her with the same tenderness she had for her patients. She loved her children devoutly and supported them her entire life. She never missed a recital, football game, gymnastics meet, or performance. Her children saw her as both mother and friend. Each maintained a special bond and close relationship with her. Bonnie’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her and she spoke of them with pride and love. She was a friendly and joyful woman. She never met a stranger in her life--they were friends she hadn’t met yet.
She is survived by her son John Lewis Houk and his children Jamie Lynn Kerr & Dustinn Houk, daughter Wendy Lynn Field (husband James Field) and children Brandon Pivacek & Logan Field, daughter Bonnie Mabel Pivacek Jr. (husband Matthew Yearout), and son Charles Jeff Pivacek.
