Beverly Ann Simpson

A Colorado native, Beverly spent most of her 89 years living in the Denver area. She loved drives to the mountains and picnics near the beautiful lakes. When venturing outside of Colorado, some of her favorite destinations were the beaches of Maine, Oregon, and California, the Bavarian Alps, the fjords of Norway, and theaters in the West End in London.

Beverly graduated from North High School in 1951 where she excelled in stenography, and she honed her secretarial skills throughout her varied working career, retiring from Red Rocks Community College as an Executive Assistant in 2003.

Ever fashionable, Beverly was often complemented on her lovely clothing and enjoyed accessorizing from head to toe. Her mother, Ann, once said that the only difference between people in the soap operas and us is that they dress better—except for Beverly. With her shoe collection boxed and labeled by color, style, and materials, family lovingly teased her by calling her the Imelda of Wheat Ridge.

Beverly loved to dabble in a wide variety of hobbies but dove most deeply into writing, photography, painting, and cooking. She enjoyed being part of a writers’ group, and loved to write autobiographical vignettes. If at a party or celebration, she was always behind the camera capturing candid shots to share. As a painter, she fancied herself as a modern Grandma Moses, capturing still life objects in a colorful, primitive style. Skilled in the kitchen, her homemade rolls, lasagna, and legendary potato salad will be remembered for generations.

Having raised three children while working full time, then living with and caring for her elderly mother, Beverly lived independently until thirteen days before her death, when she received an unexpected diagnosis of Stage 4 cancer throughout her body. She spent the last weeks of her life surrounded by family and friends, and the caring and compassionate people at the Arvada Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Beverly was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend, and will be greatly missed and always remembered. A celebration of her life will be held in late May, and family and close friends will be contacted with the details.
